A journey through the private estates of Tuscany and Umbria. Your clients open historic villas, taste Brunello and Vino Nobile directly from the cellars, and settle into two countryside bases, one near Perugia and one in the heart of the Val d’Orcia.
Arrival at Fiumicino and private transfer to the hotel in the historic centre. The afternoon is left free to recover from the flight, with an optional orientation walk through Piazza Navona and the Pantheon before dusk. Welcome dinner at a trattoria in the Regola district, with wines from Lazio and a short introduction to the route ahead.
Morning guided visit to the Forum and the Palatine with an archaeologist, entering before the main flow of visitors. Independent lunch near the Capitoline. In the afternoon, the basilica of San Clemente and its three superimposed levels, from a twelfth-century church down to a Roman house and a Mithraic temple. Evening free.
Departure north, with a morning stop at Orvieto for the striped cathedral facade and the Signorelli frescoes in the San Brizio chapel. Lunch in the town, then descent into the tunnels cut through the tufa beneath it. Arrival in the late afternoon at the countryside base near Perugia, where the group stays for three nights. Dinner at the estate.
Two full days from a single base. Assisi and the Basilica di San Francesco, with the Giotto cycle seen outside the pilgrim hours and time in the upper town afterwards. Spello and its Roman gates, Bevagna and the medieval crafts still practised there. On the second afternoon, a tasting of Sagrantino at a Montefalco producer, followed by dinner among the vines.
A short transfer west with a morning in Montepulciano, walking the Renaissance main street up to Piazza Grande and descending into a cellar cut into the hill for a tasting of Vino Nobile. Lunch in the town. Arrival in the Val d’Orcia in the afternoon at the second countryside base, where the group stays for three nights.
Pienza on a quiet morning, with pecorino tasted at a farm where the sheep are still milked on site. Bagno Vignoni and its thermal square, then Montalcino and a Brunello tasting in the cellars where the wine is aged, with the producer pouring. The second day allows for the abbey of Sant’Antimo and time at the estate for those who prefer to stay put.
Morning transfer to Florence or Rome for onward flights, depending on the routing. For groups with a late departure, a final stop at San Quirico d’Orcia and the Horti Leonini gardens before reaching the airport.
